In the last 20 years Australia’s population has increased by about 30%, but waste generation has risen by a massive 170%. We recycle more than we used to, but still dispose of around half our waste in landfill.
Much of the timber removed when renovating old houses in Brisbane comes from old growth trees. With its denser grain and decades of seasoning, this timber is great for furniture construction. Recycled timber offers a rustic or vintage look that is not seen in freshly milled timber. It also plays a small part in reducing the amount of timber that ends up in landfill.
At Uptown Funky Junk we rescue timber from many sources. A lot of our timber comes from workers cottages and Queenslanders that have been renovated. There is no shortage of beautiful timber looking to be given a new lease on life…
